Beechwold Trail is a small, one-person project that makes two free trip-planning apps: Pack Planner (pack.beechwoldtrail.com) and Camp Planner (camp.beechwoldtrail.com). This page explains, in plain language, what the apps store about you and who can see it. It covers both apps and this website.
The short version
- We store your email address and what you enter in the apps. That's it.
- No ads, no tracking or analytics, and we never sell or share your data.
- You can download your data or delete your account at any time, in either app's Settings.
One account for both apps
A Beechwold Trail account works in Pack Planner and Camp Planner. Each app keeps its own data, and only you can see it. Deleting your account deletes it, and everything in it, for both apps.
What we store
- Your email address, used only to sign you in. We send you sign-in emails and, during the beta, your invite, and nothing else: no newsletters or marketing. If you sign in with Google, Google also shares your name and profile picture with the sign-in service; the apps don't use or show them.
- What you enter in Pack Planner: your gear closet, food pantry, trips (including trip names, dates, destinations and map locations), packing choices, meal plans and settings.
- What you enter in Camp Planner: your gear, trips (including trip names, dates, campgrounds, site and reservation numbers and map locations), the number of people on each trip and any names you give them, packing choices and settings.
Trip destinations and dates can reveal where you'll be and when, and the names you give people on a trip may be your family's. Treat them like any other personal information. Only you can see them.
Beta invite requests
While the apps are in beta, you can ask for an invite. The form sends us your name, email address, which app you're interested in, and any note you add, as an email to our own inbox. We use it only to invite you and to reply to you, and we don't add you to any mailing list.
Who can see your data
- You. The database only lets each signed-in person read and change their own records. Other users can't see anything of yours.
- The apps' owner can technically access the database to run and repair it. We only look at an account's data to fix a problem, or when you ask us to.
- No one else. We don't sell, rent or share your data with anyone.
Services that help run the apps
- Supabase stores your data and handles sign-in (servers in the United States).
- Cloudflare hosts the websites and handles our email addresses.
- Resend sends the sign-in and invite emails, and delivers beta invite requests to us.
- Google, only if you choose "Continue with Google", confirms who you are. Google sees that you signed in to Beechwold Trail.
- GitHub keeps a private backup copy of the database, made each night and deleted after 30 days, so your data can be recovered if something goes wrong.
When you use some features, your browser contacts these public services directly. Like any website, they can see your internet (IP) address:
- Weather: the U.S. National Weather Service and NOAA, and Open-Meteo. They receive the location you're checking.
- Place and campground search: Open-Meteo (Pack Planner), and OpenStreetMap through the Photon search service (Camp Planner). They receive what you search for and, when you pick a spot on the map, its location. Camp Planner's federal campground search goes to Recreation.gov through our own server, so Recreation.gov doesn't see your internet address.
- Maps: MapTiler (Pack Planner) and OpenFreeMap (Camp Planner), both using OpenStreetMap data. They receive the map area you're viewing.
- Directions: Camp Planner's Directions link opens Google Maps with the campground's location.
- Fonts and code libraries: Google Fonts, jsDelivr and unpkg.
Cookies and storage on your device
The apps keep your sign-in session and a few display preferences in your browser's storage, and remember recent weather results so pages load faster. So that you can view your trips with no signal, they also keep a copy of your data and of the app itself on your device. Signing out or deleting your account removes the data copy. The demos keep their sample data on your device only. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Your choices
- Download your data: in Pack Planner, Settings → Download my data; in Camp Planner, Settings → Download a backup.
- Delete your account: Settings → Delete my account, in either app, permanently erases your account and everything in it, for both apps. It can't be undone. Copies in our nightly backups are deleted within 30 days.
- Questions or requests: email [email protected].
Children
The apps aren't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. Parents planning a family trip in Camp Planner may enter their children's first names or nicknames; those stay private to the parent's account like everything else.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the apps.
